Vaccination

Vaccination is all about keeping your furry friend safe and sound, so don't hesitate to ask your vet any questions you might have.

Why Vaccination Matters

At birth, newborn puppies and kittens inherit temporary immunity from their mother's milk. However, as this immunity wanes over time, they become susceptible to various viruses and infections. Vaccination plays a pivotal role in preventing such vulnerabilities.

How Vaccination Works

During vaccination, a veterinarian administers a harmless weakened virus or its components to stimulate the immune system. This prompts the production of antibodies, providing defense against future encounters with the virus. Revaccination, or repeat vaccinations at defined intervals, helps reinforce immunity. While vaccination doesn't guarantee complete immunity, it significantly reduces the severity of illnesses. Adhering to the vaccination schedule is crucial to sustaining this protection.

Vaccination Schedule

For Cats:

  • At 8 weeks: Protection against panleukopenia, calcivirosis, rhinotracheitis.
  • At 10-12 weeks: Revaccination for previous vaccines plus rabies vaccination.
  • Annual revaccination thereafter.

For Dogs:

  • At 7-9 weeks: Defense against distemper, infectious hepatitis, parvovirus.
  • At 11-13 weeks: Revaccination for previous vaccines plus rabies and leptospirosis vaccination.
  • At 15-17 weeks: Additional revaccination for rabies and leptospirosis.
  • At 15 months: Revaccination for all listed vaccines.
  • Repeat annually.
